In the last three days, Ive spent a decent amount of time catching up with my old teachers from Junior High and High School: half of them still teach, some have been promoted to Assistant Principals, and my 8th Grade Geography Teacher/Wrestling Coach is now a Principal. When I tell them that Im working my up through the ranks of competitive Slam Poetry, and Im looking to do a Public School Tour to inspire children, the response is INCREDIBLY positive! I now have three different schools excited to help back my campaign to use a portion of the SCHOOL ARTS BUDGET (yes, thats GOVERNMENT SPONSORSHIP!) to pay the chosen poets I bring into their schools! I just need to construct a solid budget, and submit it to them. Its not a definite answer, by any means, but its a huge step in the right direction... and the power in my corner is VERY promising!
