In the next few weeks there will be two important careers events open to all Classics and Ancient History students. These are *highly* recommended for anyone who has considered a career in either law or financial services, and also anyone who is not yet sure. Former Durham Classicists who have gone on to great success in their fields will be speaking, and both presentations are specifically aimed at helping you understand how to get the most out of this particular degree as you prepare to look for internships and job opportunities. They are not recruitment sessions - the speakers will be talking and taking questions about their fields in general rather than their particular firm. This is a fantastic opportunity to talk to someone who really understands the steps you personally need to take to succeed. Both talks are relevant to all year groups (and postgraduate students too). If you only go to one (or two) careers talk this year, these are the ones to choose! Please come along, and encourage your friends in the department to join you. I hope to see big turnouts for both. Yours, Dr Russell (acting careers officer) The details: Wednesday 16 October (next week), 1-2.30 pm, PG 21 Howard Veary, Durham Classicist and former Partner at Deloitte & Touche (1990-2009) “Working for the Big 4 (Deloitte, PWC, KPMG, Ernst & Young)”. A presentation on careers for classicists in accounting, advising, and financial services. Tuesday 29 October, 6.30-7.30 pm, PG 20 Linklaters Durham Alumni group A presentation and Q&A on careers for classicists in the law. Followed by a drinks reception in the Ritson Room.
