In the next one hour I shall be at the Prison with a bag heavy with books. And the prison gate will yield. It has yielded for my team and I for close to a decade now as we returned every Saturday at 10.am at the dot. We will meet men incarcerated, mostly young men in the flower of their youth. At sighting us, many will break into grin, some will smile shyly, some will be visibly excited and exhale such infectious joy. For we have come with what will help them manage time and occupy their minds. One of the biggest enemies in the prison is time. TIME!!! You dont know what to do with it as its claws become thick walls trying to strangle you. If you scream, they will come for your skin, for they wont understand. Some inmates who patronise our Readers Club will return to school after discharge because their appetite was kindled. Books, just books, but only eternity can reveal what these books have achieved to the so far thousands of prisoners we have reached out to, and those we shall meet today and in the coming years.... There is so much we can do to alter destinies. Thank you.
