In the past she has said “I point to the increase in autism and I point to internet use. That’s all.” It is all, I say to her, reminiscent of Andrew Wakefield, the doctor who, on the basis of a fragile correlation, suggested – wrongly and damagingly – that the MMR vaccine causes autism. He, of course, was a fraud, and there is no suggestion at all that Greenfield is, but she is open to the charge of autism scaremongering. Youch.
