In the past week and a half we have gotten over 500 new Facebook Friends! For those of you who are new to our page, allow me to introduce ourselves. A Walk in the Woods began as a family dream in 1998. Erik and Vesna left corporate America after training as naturalists with the famous Mark Warren of Medicine Bow in the North GA mountains. They began this journey in order to help reconnect a frazzled society with the natural world and raise their daughter in the embrace of Mother Nature. Over the years, as their company has grown, they have added a large staff of highly qualified and professional naturalists to the family. They include Jaimie and Michael Matzko, two certified naturalists who lived and worked in the Tremont Environmental Center inside Great Smoky Mountains National Park for 5 years, Samantha Suttles, a former Park ranger who aside from being an amazing naturalist and photographer, specializes in the rich history that helps make this Park so unique, Bob Miller who as the former Parks spokesperson for decades knows all of the ins and outs of what makes the Smokies tick, Charles Savage, a Nols Graduate who spends his free time trail running through the Park, and Susan Ehrenclou, a former Smoky Mountains Science educator. We are also training two new amazing staff members and cant wait to officially introduce them to you in the next couple of weeks! For 16 years our staff has safely taken 61,000 people into these gorgeous mountains. All of our guides are highly qualified, educators, storytellers and top notch guides. We are not an ordinary guide service, we are all passionate about the natural world and on every one of our tours, we show our enthusiasm for this beautiful Park through direct and positive experiences in nature. We pride ourselves on our customer service and it shows. Erik Plakanis recently received the coveted Top Guide Award from REI, the only guide in the East to receive this honor. We have been featured in national and international publications including Globe Trekkers, Travel Channel, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Southern Living, National Geographic, Backpacker Magazine, Outside Magazine and More. We look forward to another 16 plus years of taking folks into our favorite place in the world!
