In the red zone - the prime target zone - of Cameron and Woods fracking map of Scotland youll find Blantyre. In 1957, 80 years after the great Blantyre explosion and pit disaster which killed over 200 men, Ewan MacColl broadcast (with Peggy Seeger) his ballad to a familiar tune - https://youtube/watch?v=0YF_YMnqGyI Now Blantyre is not alone, countless dangerous gas-laden coal seams in Scotland saw men lose their lives over centuries. The boreholes will reach the coal and shale where they still lie, entombed in graves no living soul can visit. Perhaps a little of that fracked gas will be the miners themselves, finally returning to the burning light of day. We do not desecrate war graves on land on in the depths of the sea, or churchyards. Central Scotland is honeycombed with countless forgotten pits - not modern mines where machinery rives a face and hydraulic props form galleries. Seams where men could barely crawl, and wooden props collapsed as the gob closed its stygian mouth and the roof met the floor. Conditions we can not imagine in the worst nightmares of claustrophobia. Energy we could never recover today - without the distance of dispassionate drilling and fracturing from the safety of the upper world. They have no idea what they are disturbing, not just the souls of colliers (like my oldest traceable forebear from Rutherglen). They want to frack the bones of Scotland.
