In the spring of 2014, teams of students from a group elementary and middle school were asked to create a video about their schools to welcome new students, especially those who have been re-districted for the 2014-2015 school year. The project was intended to be creative, positive, and reflective of the student perspective - so minimal instructions and parameters were provided. The assignment was met with tremendous enthusiasm. (Although one elementary school is not receiving any re-districted students, they were so excited about the project, they asked to participate as well.) Each of the participating teams was loaned an iPad equipped with iMovie to create the video. The principal in each building asked a teacher to help facilitate the student-driven project. The teams proceeded through a process which included brainstorming their concept, filming, and editing. The teacher facilitators and building principals provided coaching and consultation along the way. The results of the work of the student production teams is wonderful.
