In the summer of 1978 I met Lisa Burch while working as summer - TopicsExpress

In the summer of 1978 I met Lisa Burch while working as summer staff at Fort Caswell, The North Carolina Baptist Assembly. We became friends during that summer, and as I recall it she sent me a birthday card later that fall. That card started a relationship of correspondence, which led to a plan for Lisa, her brother, and his wife to stay at my apartment in Boone, NC, while skiing in the area. God intervened at that point and melted the snow that weekend, the first time that had ever happened in the middle of winter while I had been a student at Appalachian State University. This led to an invitation for me to visit Lisa in Columbia, SC, which I gladly accepted, and this is the point at which a friendship transformed itself into love, something like I had never known before. Shortly thereafter I wrote this song expressing my feelings for her and my hope that this relationship would continue. Soon after I played if for her the first time we became engaged, and within the year we were married on January 5th, 1980. In memory of those days I am sharing this song, SHE BRINGS ME SMILES. The only line that has changed since I first played it for Lisa in 1979 is this – whereas I originally sang, “I hope she’s going to stay sending her love my way for a long, long time,” I now sing, “I know she’s going to stay sending her love my way for a long, long time.” Lisa, Happy Anniversary. It’s been 35 wonderful years.
