In this day and age, it’s pretty easy to initiate a spirited debate about scripture. Few and far between are the bible verses that can be quoted without resulting in a vigorous and passionate effort to spin them in one direction or another. I have one: John 16:33 says, “In this world you will have trouble.” Show me someone who questions the ageless truth of this little scrap of scripture, and I’ll show you someone who isn’t paying attention. Show me someone who has respiration and a pulse, and I’ll show you someone who has hurt, does hurt, or will hurt. Once you truly grasp this concept, “doing justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly with your God” takes on a whole new sense of urgency, and kindness achieves new focus in your life. Don’t take my word for this. Visit any nursing home in your community. SC
