In this picture.recently posted, on the far left you can see the original A & P Store location in Hickory. The edge of the sign shows the C Tea Co. That was for The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company(A&P). The store on 1st avenue opened in the mid 50s and replaced this store. Ray Isenhour managed that store for many years.A second location opened on Hwy. 64-70 in the same shopping center with Sky City in 1960 with Woody Reid as Manager. In the early 70s, the store on 1st Ave. closed and a new one opened in the shopping center where Hobby Lobby is now located on Hwy. 127 North.Nallie Jones, one of the finest men Ive ever known or worked for, was the Manger when that store opened. Mammoth Mart, A & P and Revco Drug were the stores.The store on Hwy. 64-70 closed in 1979 and is an Antique Store now. How do I know? I worked for the chain from 1973-1979 helping close the store on Hwy. 64-70.The store on Hwy. 127 North closed in the mid 80s and became Bi-lo.
