In this weekends reading from the Gospel of John we hear John the Baptist say, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” as Jesus approaches John for baptism. So... What does that mean? Does it mean were at odds with our Creator? That God is fed up with us? That were not loved by God? Children are received with joy - no matter what they look like on the day theyre born. And parents do not fall out of love with their children - even at the most trying moments. So, as a child of God, why would God ever be fed up with you? Thats why Jesus knew, for him, that God was his Father - a loving God who would never cease to love him, a God who would never be at odds with him, a God who would always be with him. What Jesus takes away is the reason to carry anger... To rein down destruction... To live in fear. Jesus takes away any doubt that God loves us - because God will always love us no matter what! And if we believe Jesus takes away that sin... If we really act that way... That would be more than enough to celebrate! Quotes taken from Fr. Gerrys homily at Ss. Simon & Jude, Saturday January 18th. Hear more at Sundays 10 a.m. mass. Were located at 32500 Palmer Road in Westland, Michigan. Grow in the love of Jesus with us at Ss.
