In todays masterclass, pianist Mariel Ilusorio played part of this prelude and I was mesmerized... its her touch and control ---- like the piano is part of her body.... and although Ive heard this peace performed many times I just learned that it is the execution of the two successive eighth notes (after the two 16th note and one eight note which is the motif of this piece) that distinguishes an amateur pianist from the professional. The Lento indication was added later (in my book its ♪=66-69) by editors/artists. But actually, I noticed that it is how the pianist controls the tempo that gives it that lento tempo because the tendency of amateur pianist is to rush somewhere in the piece especially at the climax, when they do that, it feels like Im awakened in my deep slumber or I was disturbed in my deep prayer. Some pianist will play the last chord of the climax (with fermata) together some arpeggio. Both trying to suggest grandeur like the huge cathedrals in Europe. And every time I listen to this part, I always think its better performed in a pipe-organ, and I could literally see my former pipe-organ and later piano teacher Danford Byrens in my imagination :) So, earthlings, dont miss the recital tonight. You wont regret it. :) https://youtube/watch?v=jq7wwhDd8-Y
