In tribute to the upcoming loss of one of the greatest railfan - TopicsExpress

In tribute to the upcoming loss of one of the greatest railfan spots in the US, here is Joliet on my layout. I am trying to put it together as it was when the RI was down but not yet out. The station tracks are Shinohara code 70, while the two mains are Walthers code 83 with twelve Peco diamonds soldered together using Details West brass code 83 joint bars to hold the rails and transfer electrical contact. Peco makes the most prototypical of the massive bolts and plates you see on these crossings. A layout is like a movie set, designed to convey place and time. The depot and UD Tower are both paper mock-ups. The beginnings of the massive signal bridge is a bashed pair of four track signal bridges to make the appropriate width bridge. I started soldering railings for the top walkway and need far more practice before getting anything worth installing. I am also toying with various ways to scratch build RI type G signal heads in brass and plastic.
