In vehicles today there is a diagnostic fault code for just about everything. The transmission alone can have over 400 different fault codes. Sometimes these faults occur if there is insufficient power in the battery, and these are artificial transmission faults as there is nothing wrong with the transmission. Since todays electronics are very demanding and OEM’s are adding more and more features to the vehicle it is difficult for the battery to keep up. For example some new features keep some of the electronics on so they are ready when the engine has started and don’t turn off if the doors aren’t locked. In other cases if the vehicle is not driven enough to keep the battery charged during driving the battery may wear out. It is also good practice to make sure you follow the vehicle manufacturer’s maintenance recommendation to change the battery. Batteries do wear out, and in some cases they may have enough power to start the car, but not enough to start the car and power the other electronics at the same time. This causes the artificial faults in the transmission.
