Inaugural World Junior Girls Golf Championship Has Eastern Ontario Touch On Sunday, September 28th, play will begin in earnest at the very first World Junior Girls Golf Championship. Hosted at Markham, Ontarios Angus Glen Golf Club (South Course), it will feature 48 players from 15 nations around the world. Leading the way for Canada will be two of Eastern Ontarios finest young golfers. Its been an intense summer for both Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls and Grace St-Germain of Orleans but undoubtedly they are ready to take on the work on home turf one more time. Henderson, 17, and the #1 ranked Womens Amateur in the world, and St-Germain, 16, and the reigning Canadian Junior Girls Champion, will make up 2/3rds of Canadas top team for the championship. Theyll be joined by Naomi Ko of Victoria for their three person squad. The second team for Canada will consist of Jaclyn Lee, Selena Costabile and Alisha Lau. Canada has two teams as the host nation for this tournament conducted by Golf Canada in cooperation with the Golf Association of Ontario. Two out of three scores count each day for the teams with 72 holes of stroke play scheduled. There is also recognition for the top individual player. There is no cut so all the field will be around for the conclusion on Wednesday, October 1st. Practice rounds begin Saturday, the same day that a CN Future Links Challenge Event will also take place. The golf festival type environment also features a Coaching Summit, a fund-raising golf tournament, and the entire event will provide a practice run for the golf portion of the 2015 Pan-Am games scheduled to be hosted by the club a year from now.
