Incarceration of our youth is already too often used as punishment for crimes - instead of spending time and resources at looking at intervention programs for these very messed up hopeless kids. Yes, they break the law. Yes they steal and trash your car. Yes they can be violent. Yes, you have a right to be angry, but youre being angry in the wrong direction. All time in juvey does is give them a good chance to realise just how messed up their situations on the outside are, and how little chance they have of changing it. It is not an answer. It will never be an answer. This is letter to the editor based policy at its worst. Listen to the experts for once will you? Instead of people with angrily written opinions who have no idea of what theyre talking about.
