Incase you missed it....This is the letter I sent to Uhuru Kenyatta on the 5th of May 2014. MY OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT UHURU KENYATTA ON CLAIMS OF RAILA PLANNED ASSASSINATION AND THE STATE OF THE COUNTRY. Dear Mr. President, There is a better and civilised way of dealing with political opposition than assassinating its members (That is, if the claim by Dr. Oburu happens to be true). You should know that one day you will relinquish power and this may come in so many forms such as, getting a permanent life threatening ailment that might incapacitate you from running the office of the president of your country, through election defeat (though at the moment it seems so remote as the IEBC is TNA and TNA is IEBC), overthrown by your strong military (this is not so remote) or you may choose to retire. The recent revelations by Dr. Oburu Odinga, that you and your E. Africa counterparts are planning to assassinate Raila Odinga is not only disturbing but also very unfortunate. What is even more disturbing is that ever since Dr. Oburu made the allegations, neither the Police nor the Intelligence Service have bothered to summon him to record a statement over his claims even after offering to do so. What do they fear might be revealed, the truth? If this happens, that you and you colleagues assassinate Raila, then I fear the already bad security situation in the country might go from controllably very dangerous to uncontrollably very dangerous and I also fear this may even lead to you prematurely leaving power before the end of your 5 year term, voluntarily of by force. This might also lead to very shameful and dangerous situation for you and your close family and friends. God Forbid this does not happen. We do not wish a politician of your stature leaving power and dying the way President Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana left power and died. We do not want you to leave power the way President Modibo Keita (The first president of Mali) left power and eventually died. We would not be happy if you go through the same trials and tribulations of Charles Taylor of Liberia and president Gbagbo of Ivory Coast. Africa will not be proud for you to meet a similar fate that befell presidents Thomas Sankara of Burkina Faso and Ndadaye of Burundi. Africa does not want you to end the way Colonel Muammar Gadhafi of Libya ended. Neither does Africa need to see you end the way president Juvenal Habyarimana of Rwanda, Cyprian Ntaryamira of Burundi and President Samora Machel of Mozambique ended. It would be doing a disservice to Africa if you end the way president Muhammad Anwar Sadat of Egypt ended. The African continent does not want to see you sent into ‘retirement’ the way president Samuel Doe of Liberia was sent into retirement. Repression takes many forms, and too many nations are plagued by problems that condemn their people to poverty, Kenya being among them. No country is going to create wealth if its leaders exploit the economy to enrich themselves, or police can be bought off by drug traffickers. No person wants to live in a society where the rule of law gives way to the rule of brutality and bribery. That is not democracy, that is tyranny, and now is the time for it to end. Africa doesnt need strongmen, it needs strong institutions. These strong men like Museveni, Kiir and Kagame are all taking you on the wrong path, and it is high time you broke away from them. Please copy the Tanzania way for the good of this country. Our country is in shambles, and the quality of life of millions of ordinary Kenyans is deteriorating. Confidence in our country, and its economic and political system, is at an all-time low If you continue this way, Kenyans will always remember your term as a ruler, as a period of high level corruption, political instability, insecurity, tribalism, state sponsored public fund stealing etc. Please remember that those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and silencing of dissent, are in the wrong side of history. When swearing in, you said : I, Uhuru Kenyatta do solemnly swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to the Republic of Kenya; that as President of the Republic, I will discharge my duties to the best of my ability, faithfully and in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Kenya and always in the interest of the sovereignty, integrity, solidarity, well-being and prosperity of the Republic of Kenya…………and that I will devote myself to the service and well-being of the people of Kenya. So help me God. You made the above declaration in an oath administered by Chief Justice and The Registrar of SC while holding the Holy Bible in a ceremony that had a live coverage on our national televisions, meaning that you swore before God and man to protect Kenya and Kenyans. So please do just that and stop leaving Kenya in the hands of some few Vultures around you. Leaders are remembered for what they do or what they fail to do. While you have pledged under oath to discharge your duties to the best of your ability, only you can ascertain if your best ability (or not) is being applied to the services you are rendering to nation but if we should assume that you are putting in your best, then we have more than enough reasons to show concerns and frustrations with your best. At this stage, this your best, at best seems not to be the best for Kenya. To say it’s inadequate is an understatement. In all fairness to you, most of the problems in Kenya today did not start during your regime; many of them have been around – though at much smaller scale – for as long as we can remember, but they have grown worse and out of proportion from the time you took power. Please lead this country to a path of prosperity, equality, security, justice and equality for all, and please treat all Kenyans equal no matter what part of the country they come from. May the good Lord give you the Grace and Humility to serve Kenyans with love, dedication and results. Whatever you do from now till the end of your term will largely determine where posterity will place you. Now is time to wake up to the task! Sincerely, Baraza LaJamii Ya Kenya.
