Independence Anniversary: Nigeria cannot run away from revolution – CLO An Executive Director of the Civil Liberties Organization, Comrade Steve Aluko, said the current security challenges bedeviling the nation, can only be surmounted through a revolution, saying “the form and shape it would take is what nobody can tell”. He disclosed this in Jos, in a chat with journalists on Tuesday, while also commenting on the nation’s 53rd independence anniversary. According to him, “If equity, fairness and sense of justice are at loss, I will have my fear for this country that we can’t make it, but if we are able to put ourselves together to address these, going beyond what our leaders are giving us now, we will come out of it stronger. But it’s the management that is the key. Adding that, “We have greater countries that were stronger and more resourceful than Nigeria, but because some came to the helm of affairs and mismanaged the country, today we are not talking much about those countries. He maintained that, “In Nigeria and the challenges we are having today, if not properly managed, spells doom for the country. But if we come together as a nation, renew our fate in this country, and are ready to sacrifice all that we need, we will come out stronger. Speaking on whether there may be revolution in Nigeria and what kind of revolution we should expect, he said, “The Arab spring is as a result of the factors they have. What will determine the one we will witness in Nigeria will depend on the factor that we also have and that is why I said that if not properly managed, we could have a bloody revolution. Aluko stressed that, “But one fact that is clear is that, we must not run away from revolution, the form and shape it would take is what nobody can tell “If all effort that people put in place to dissipate energy in bringing down Nigeria, if you put it on the table to build Nigeria, it would be a greater country. We have the human and mineral resource in abundance, and we have the land mass and population. It’s just for us to have people in government that will harness this diversity. The Executive Director further stated that there is the need for a national sovereign conference, decrying that the major problem in the country is that the issue of national sovereign conference is being “Sentimentalized”. “The problem is that we have crisis of false identity and false ideas. Speaking on the nation’s 53rd independence celebration, he lamented that, after 53 years of independence, students are not safe in schools, people are not safe in their place of worship, homes and market. He asked, “What are we celebrating when we have dissipated all our energy in bringing down all symbols of national unity. According to him, “We should only celebrate the future of Nigeria, not what we have had in the past, because what we have had in the past is nothing to reckon with. “The democracy we have, is it democratic enough? How free and fair is our election? He further asked.
