India, like many other former colonies, chose to follow blindly - TopicsExpress

India, like many other former colonies, chose to follow blindly the system of governance as practiced by Europe and America. The framers of the Indian constitution saw it fit to adopt a constitution for India which is in line with the constitutions in Europe and America. They believed that what is good for the gander must necessarily be good for the gander; that what is good for the gander may not be good for the goose did not appeal to them. They did not deem it fit to consider the differences - culturally, traditionally, diversity of ethnic groups, diversity in the neuroanthropology and natures, etc - between the peoples of the two groups. Since independence India has been ruled by the elite; the common man being asked to take part only during election time. Election over the elite take over, in connivance of greedy and corrupt politicians, the affairs of governing the country; the common has no more say. I would like to remind readers here that Democracy is best defined as Peoples power and that all citizens of the community or the country take part in decision taking in affairs of the community or the country. In today democracies (?) this participation of the people have been exercised through representatives elected by the people. Then is it not mandatory for the elected representatives to consult those who elected them for matters relating to the governance? Yes, India is today an economic power in the world boasting over 55 billionaires (surpassing the UK and many European countries), over 150,000 millionaires and the biggest oil refinery and airport in the world. That India has a middle class is a myth; 25% (China 63%, Pakistan 50%) of the Indian population is bracketed in the middle class category but 4 out of 5 of these live on US$ 2 to US$ 4 per day. Over 68% live on US$ 2 per day whilst up to 35% live on US$ 1.25 per day (internationally recognized as the minimum poverty line). Political and financial corruption is endemic in Indian politics and governance. The haves and the have nots have been divided into opposing two camps; each camp labeling one other as we,us and they, them. When the have nots elect to oppose the governance they are labeled as Naxazlites. In this situation the AAM party brings in fresh breath into the Indian politics. One can only hope this will have a good effect on Indian politics in the future and wish them luck. They may not win as many votes in the national elections as they did in Delhi but surely they have rocked the foundations of elitism and corruption in Indian politics.
