Indian Weddings: Length of Wedding: A traditional Indian wedding lasts an average of three days Reception: It’s a crazy party, lots of dancing, lots of fun. Food: You’ll see a spread of flatbreads with different curries, savory pastries with spiced meats or vegetables, fritters, and a dessert display, which typically includes cake, Indian ice cream, and decorated sweets made from nuts. There will often be up to four stations of chefs preparing food for guests. Gifts: Couples usually request that no gifts at the wedding, so guests usually have gifts shipped to the couple’s home or bring an envelope of money to the wedding. Gifts are exchanged between the bride’s family and the groom’s family before and after the wedding. What colors represents... The combination of these two bold colors represents luck and wealth Attire: The bridal dress is a sari with tons of ornaments beads. Her hair is usually in a bun and covered with a crown and veil. The groom may wear a white silk brocade suit, sword and turban as his wedding outfit. Note Traditions: Bride is given a jewel, set in gold, on a gold cord to wear throughout her marriage. The cord is tied three times to symbolize her duty to her parents, husband and sons. After the ceremony, the groom’s brother sprinkles flower petals over the couple to protect them from evil. (Henna Ceremony) The traditional art of adorning the hands and feet with a paste made from the Henna plant. After the wedding, the bride is not expected to perform any housework until her ink has faded away.
