Indian student attacked and killed in India - *silence* Facts of the case: 18-year old Nido Tainam, son of Congress MLA Nido Pavitram from Arunachal Pradesh, was beaten up badly by seven men in Lajpat Nagar followint an altercation that started with Tainams hairstyle and ended with his death. He was beaten up with sticks and rods. The corpse had a broken arm and lips that were torn apart. ~~~ What is WRONG with us? With us as Delhi walas, us as Indians, and us as human beings? Are seven men needed to fight a teenager? And more fundamentally, why fight at all, especially over something as silly as hairstyle? Is it because Tainam looked different from what we think is normal? Yes, that is the reason - because he does not conform to our norms. This, dear Indians, is racism. Keep this incident in mind when you next plan to call someone chinky or gurkha or pahadi. And keep this incident in mind when you travel and live alone in a country of people who do not look exactly like you. Remember this, and pray that they are not as unkind or prejudiced as we are. Remember this, and stop others from spreading hatred and prejudice.
