Indiana House District 46 candidates have differing views on education: Shared from Monroe County Coalition Public Education: Heaton said he doesn’t understand the argument that schools aren’t being fully funded. He said in fiscal year 2011-12, the state’s education budget was cut to $10.166 billion from $10.529 billion, but it was the only decrease in education funding in 24 years. He said a year and a half ago, he voted to pass a budget that included a $10.591 billion education appropriation and $10.689 billion for fiscal year 2014-15, the state’s largest education appropriation ever. “I don’t understand the argument,” he said, adding that even if the budget was $11 billion, it still wouldn’t be enough for some people. Heaton also thinks the argument against using public money for private schools is hypocritical. He said former Gov. Evan Bayh was a big supporter of the state’s 21st Century Scholars program, which offers income-eligible Hoosier students up to four years of paid tuition at an eligible Indiana college or university after they graduate from high school. “It went to poor people for college, no strings attached,” Heaton said. “They can go to a religious college. You’re using public money to allow an individual to go to school. It sounds hypocritical that you can’t do that for someone at age 15 as opposed to a 19-year-old.” Representative Bob Heaton (R-Terre Haute) [and he is your representative if you live out toward Elletsville] did not even dignify us with an RSVP for our ICPE forum on the 20th..let alone come to hear why we disagree about vouchers. HE DID NOT EVEN SHOW UP. HE DOESNT CARE TO HEAR. He has received an F from our organization for his repeated votes against public education. The only way to successfully flunk him is for people to show up at the polls. heraldtimesonline/news/local/indiana-house-district-candidates-have-differing-views-on-education/article_1f767140-0548-51a5-bb3c-ac0c46cafdf0.html
