Indiana boy Loves Kentucky restaurant Diner Review Urban Spoon • Jun 09, 2012 I travel constantly in search of interesting attractions and tours. My travels and research lead me to wonderful restaurants and at times, mediocre and not so wonderful restaurants. Most of the time I am very happy due to the fact that I spend hours researching this stuff! I was attracted to Rodney’s several months ago as read about it online. I made the 5 hour trip from my home near Fort Wayne IN to tour a mansion known as Ward Hall. I was intrigued by the other historic homes and downtown facades in Georgetown. I decided to visit Rodney’s for various reasons one being that it is contained within the walls of an 1840’s home. How cool is that? When I arrived at R.O.B. I was greeted by attentive and friendly staff members. The ambiance was great and my dinner companion was overjoyed from the very beginning. Our food came out in a timely manner and it was a busy night. Our server was very helpful and she knew her stuff. We finished up with a great dessert. The dinner, the dessert, and our server were completely above par and we could not have had a nicer time. But then it got even better! Chef came out and began to go from table to table speaking with the guests and bantering a bit. It was refreshing. He came to our table and we hit it off when it was discovered that we came from the same area in Northeast Indiana. It felt like we had come to someone’s home for dinner. To quote my companion, “That was one of my all-time best dining experiences.” We were invited to walk around a bit and explore the house. I was taken to the office where I met Chefs wife and she was as congenial as everyone else. Steve the manger was also a very cool guy and very funny. If this place were judged on personality alone it would get an A+. I returned to Rodney’s recently with another friend of mine from Indiana. We were on a mission to see some attractions near Georgetown and I had been bragging the place up and was hoping that our experience would equal the last visit. I was wrong. It totally exceeded it. I walked in the entry door and Chef Rod was ironically standing right there in his chef’s garb and we started talking as though no time had passed. We decided to sit in the bar. I am so glad that we did. It was a Thursday night so not really bustling but busy. Our bartender Rachael served us and she was great. She made some suggestions, and they were perfect. She urged us to try two varieties of scallops. One style with bleu cheese and the others were called “sea horses” I can’t lie, the bleu scallops were simply the best…BEST that I have ever had. Such a variety of flavors and so tender. The sea horses were a 10! Chef had suggested his special prime rib done in a smoker then finished off on a grill and topped with the Henry Baines sauce. We both ordered it and again, best prime rib that I had ever had. Bar none! I sipped on my fine bourbon and chef made several appearances. It amazed me. Rod takes a personal interest in your dining experience. He talks to you. Asks you what you enjoy, makes suggestions. We talked about guitars, bourbon, and food. A very warm & genuine man on a mission: to make your dining experience the best! He succeeds at this at a whole new level. I will return when I can. As we traveled on to visit other destinations in Bardstown and Lebanon we told people about this wonderful eatery in quant Georgetown. Rodney and his establishment and staff are top notch! My only regret is that I live over 5 hours away from Georgetown.
