Indications emerged yesterday that two former governors of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba and Otunba Gbenga Daniel are set to dump the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Labour Party (LP) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Our correspondent also learnt that there are plans to hand over the PDP governorship ticket to former speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole as a way of wresting power from the APC led government in the state. To that effect, the PDP according to sources, is planning a rally in Abeokuta where key members of the Osoba, Daniel and Bankole group have been invited to discuss terms for moving to the PDP. Osoba has been at daggers drawn with the leadership of the APC over control of party structure in Ogun, which culminated in his declaration that his group would not have anything to do with the state chapter of the party last month. Efforts to broker truce among the factions were deadlocked at the weekend, as the meeting which held in Abuja hit the rocks, as Osoba maintained that justice must be done by the party before they could talk about reconciliation. Osoba was reported to have told the delegation, led by APC chairman, Odigie Oyegun and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar that despite the fact that his camp followed the party guidelines, the party discarded him and his loyalists for his estranged political son. On his part, the Daniel group under the LP banner, who are already on mobilization drive have resolved to formally team up with PDP in order to perform the kind of feat recorded in Ekiti State. “It is clear that LP cannot get the nod of the Presidency, so rather than dancing in the garb of masquerade, it is better to come out now and identify with the PDP,” a source said.
