In conjunction with our “Veiled Arts of Victorian Women” - TopicsExpress

In conjunction with our “Veiled Arts of Victorian Women” exhibit, we asked visitors to share their memories of home food preservation. Here is one memory that has been “preserved” and shared with us: “Peach Butter in Penns Valley, PA – Visiting my great aunt and uncle at a cabin they built near Penns Creek was an annual summer activity for me. In the 1970’s there was an insurgence of interest in vegetable gardening, baking bread, preserving and so on. I know my great aunt had done these things in her youth so I asked for a lesson, she suggested peach butter. So, we traveled to a local farmers market for peaches. The skinning, cooking and canning took a long time in the 90 some degree heat that August day, but the results were well worth it. The sharing of the experience with my mom and great aunt was as sweet as the peach butter itself.” centrehistory.org/exhibits/veiled-arts/
