Indie Spotlight Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna) released today, is a charmingly beautiful puzzle platformer by Upper One Games and E-Line Media based on native Alaskan folklore. The game was built in partnership with industry veterans and the Iñupiat, an Alaska Native community. It allows players to explore the traditional lore and art of the Iñupiat people of the Arctic. Set in a harsh tundra environment you will be faced with puzzles and challenges as you take control of a young native girl named Nuna and her Arctic fox friend in an attempt to find the cause of the eternal blizzard which threatens to destroy her homeland. You can play single player or co-op and use the abilities of both Nuna and Fox to solve puzzles you encounter along the way. An authentic feel is provided by the game being narrated in the Iñupiat language and you can unlock videos along the way featuring people from the Cook Inlet community sharing stories about survival in the regions unforgiving environment. The game seems to be the first of a few of this kind that could give us a real look in to other peoples cultures around the world, as the studio indicated that it was their first title in an exciting new genre of “World Games” that draw fully upon the richness of unique cultures to create complex and fascinating game worlds for a global audience. It really looks like a stunning game and has received some positive reviews already. Its out today on Xbox One, PS4 and Steam.
