Information from CFA Gippsland: 39 fires remain out of control across the region this evening with a significant wind change expected from 7pm. The predicted wind change is likely to cause erratic and unpredictable fire behaviour and Gippslanders are urged to stay on alert. Fires of Significance • Westbury Fire. - Good work by firefighting crews and aircraft has prevented further spread of this fire today. One spot fire, 1km south east of the main fire occurred earlier this afternoon. This fire is currently 146ha. • Club Terrace. - The majority of residents have left the area in preparation of this fire impacting later communities this evening. The Princes Highway remains closed between Orbost and Cann River. This closure is being constantly reviewed to ensure it can be opened to traffic as soon as possible. Community meetings were held earlier today at Cann River and Bemm River. • Glenaladale. - There are two large fires in the Fernbank/Glenaladale area. The Limpyers Road fire is currently 602ha and burning through grassland in a southerly direction. The Mount Ray fire, north of Glenaladale is currently 428ha. Regional Fire Controller Bryan Russell said there was a significant amount of fire across the region. “The wind change will be reaching East Gippsland after midnight so I encourage residents to closely monitor the fire situation,” he said. “It has been a very long day for firefighters and the community but we need to realise that these fire have the potential to be burning for many days to come.” he said. Locals are urged to stay informed and actively seek further information about the fire situation through your local emergency radio broadcasters including ABC 100.7FM, TRFM 99.5FM and Gold 1242AM.
