Insecurity in Mandera County is taking a parallel with that of Nigeria and Somalia. The actors in the conflict are alshabaab, the Degodia and Garre clan militias. The situatiin there poses a grave threat to the entire countrys national security. Mandera Governor, unwittingly, called fr the expansion of Usalama watch to his cpunty awhile ago. In his strategy, operation Usalama watch would help rid Mandera town of aliens and Shabaab sympathisers. That was met with stiff opposition from several quarters due to the public mistrust of the Kenyan Security Personnel who are high handed and devoid of any respect fr human rights. Now that the Governors community militia has resurfaced, we ask him to plead with the national govt to enforce a forced disarmament process of the thugs fighting in the name of the aforementioned clans. The last time the Murulle and Garre were engaged in a battle to the death, it was only the intervention of the KDF that put an end to the skirmishes. No amount of reconciliation or ceasefire agreement or Ulama intervention will bring peace between Degodia and Garre. Lets unleash the KDF on those cowardly clan militias and have them and thier guns razed to the ground. As for Alshabaab making cross border raids into Mandera, we want the KDF to redeem thier image and deal the Gedo region Shabaab cells a deadly blow. It makes no sense to controll Kismayu and lose controll of Mandera town to these terrorists. As a way of entrenching loyalty and steadfastnesd in the war against terror, the Government should compensate the families of the ten Security officials who died a week ago in Mandera after engaging Alshabaab fighters who hijacked and sped away with a landcruiser vehicle belonging to a Manderan.
