Inside Man (2006) Rated R - 129 min. imdb/title/tt0454848/?ref_=nv_sr_1 A thriller/drama in the best tradition. A master thief, a police detective on the ropes, a banker with a secret, and a power broker who deals in favors all converge in the quintessential thriller. Plots and sub-plots come together to deliver one of the best written, directed, and acted thriller/dramas I’ve seen in many years. It is without a doubt the best movie Spike Lee has yet directed. Also probably the best movie Russell Gewirtz has ever written. Denzel Washington delivers an amazing portrayal of the stereotypical Detective on the verge of a career meltdown. Clive Owen portrays the master thief who has the perfect plan to get away with a major bank robbery in the middle of Manhattan. Jodie Foster too delivers an amazing portrayal as the most powerful power broker in NYC. The supporting casts also deliver portrayals so believable that they could have been lead, rather than supporting cast members. I suppose I write amazing a bit too often, especially in this review. But to me, they fit. I’ve seen so many movies that I cannot count them. Perhaps as many as 10,000 movies (in 45+ years). That said, this has to be one of the very BEST dramas I have ever seen. Rent it with someone who’s company you enjoy, and it will make it all the better. Or, just watch it alone. But just see it. Cheers! TCS
