Inside South-Central Kentucky Football -Bowling Green (6-0) won by a pretty sizable 91-10 margin over Logan County. bluegrasspreps/ky-football-high/bowling-green-91-a-262568.html”]You may have bluegrasspreps/ky-football-high/logan-county-blame-262616.html”]seen a thread bluegrasspreps/ky-football-high/quote-they-bowling-262617.html”]or two about it. 63 first half points, 8 first half TDs for Hayes, most points in BG history….. the list of accolades for this year’s team goes on and on and on and on. -There is no doubt that their 28-7 win over Owensboro in Rash Stadium was Warren Central’s (4-3) best win of the season. After dropping three games to decent to good teams and then annihilating three poor teams, the Dragons proved that they could go beat a good team, knocking off 4A #7 Owensboro, at Owensboro no less. Both offenses struggled early as at the 2 minute mark of the 3rd the score was just 6-0. Then came a combined 29 points in 2:52 of game time as Central scored via every single facet – a rushing score on offense, a kickoff return on special teams, and an interception return on defense. This all sandwiched around Owensboro’s lone score of the night. HC Mike Rogers spent the night atop the Owensboro press box rather than the sidelines as he was feeling under the weather. Who knows, maybe he might try that again…. -To say it was a surprise South Warren (6-1) lost to Daviess County 8-3 would be a bit of an understatement. The Spartans had not failed to score 35 points in a game all year, but could only come up with 3 points on four red zone trips, with a missed FG, turnover on downs, and game sealing fumble on the failed ones. That red zone defense by the Panthers allowed them to overcome being outgained 360-155, including 247-76 on the ground. But all they needed was that one 40 yard TD, the first allowed all year by South Warren. The Spartans will lick their wounds and re-enter 3A play, humbled and hopefully hungry for the first time in weeks. -Seneca has an unimpressive record at 0-6, but any time a 2A team like Glasgow (6-1) steps up in class to get a win, it’s impressive enough. Their 19-7 win looks even better when you consider that Seneca is 0-6 in large part due to a brutal schedule, highlighted by losses to teams like John Hardin (35-6), Eastern (20-14) and Manual (34-22). Glasgow led 13-7 late before a 15 play, 82 yard drive for a score sealed the victory. Bellcow Marquez Trigg ran for 117 yards and had the game-clinching score for the Scotties. -In the pregame prediction thread I noted that Franklin-Simpson (3-4) had only once ever lost to Warren East (3-4) at Shadetree Stadium in Franklin. I admit that I thought the Raiders would get win #2. WRONG. The Wildcats turned in their most impressive performance of the year and indeed the entire Doug Preston coaching tenure in a 37-7 stomping of Warren East to seize early control of the district. It is just the second time all year Franklin-Simpson scored more than 16 points. They won by holding the Raiders to just 123 yards of offense, but most importantly, they finished in the second half where all year they had faded after strong starts. It was just a 15-7 game at the half before Franklin-Simpson got breathing room with two third quarter TDs by the 5 minute mark and that was all she wrote. Eli Brown, making another start at the QB position, was held to 77 yards on 14 carries, compared to the 338 yards he had against Hopkinsville in his first start two weeks ago. The Raiders ultimately only had two first downs in the second half. -The schedule has helped some, but Allen County-Scottsville (4-3) isn’t going to apologize for that assistance in generating the most positive momentum they’ve had in years. For the first time since 2010 they are above .500. The three game winning streak they have is the first time they’ve had consecutive wins since that same year. And behind Charlie Trapp – already over 1,000 yards rushing on the year – perhaps they can finally emerge from the wilderness and return to the form that saw them in three consecutive region title games from 2008-2010. Trapp absolutely gashed the Fighting Tigers with 159 yards on only six carries, and four of them were touchdowns. The Patriots gained a running clock before the end of the first quarter. As important as Trapp has been emerging QB Jesse Bow, who threw for 103 yards to add to the 292 he has put up in the previous three games. -Barren County (2-5) had not beaten Greenwood (2-5) since 2001 or won a district game over a team other than Logan County since 2007, but it all came together for the most important win of the Jason Esters era at Barren County in a 14-10 decision in Glasgow on Friday. There was plenty of drama, as Greenwood led 7-0 after the first quarter and 10-7 as the clock wound under a minute. But on 3rd and 17 Andrew Hughes found Chad Eaton for a 19 yard touchdown with just 41 seconds remaining to put Barren County up, and then picked off Josh Dyer in the end zone as time expired to seal the deal. That means barring some truly unforeseen results that the Trojans will climb into the three spot come playoff time, and relegating Greenwood to their lowest finish since failing to make the playoffs in 2010 when they were in 6A. The Gators were outgained 262-198 and had only 61 yards on the ground without their leading rusher DeMarcus Potter available. THIS WEEK -Your options are go to South Warren to watch them take on Adair County, travel outside the area, or read a good book. 8 of the 9 teams in the area are taking the week off over fall break, an irritating synced bye week for the area teams that began in 2011.
