Insofar as being scientifically illiterate, I often find that foodie posts are possibly the worst. Food is made out of chemicals. EVERYTHING is made out of chemicals. There are efficient ways to make food/chemicals, and sometimes they involve a little bit of innovation/dirty work. Sure, there are people trying to create shortcuts to save money. Necessity is the mother of invention: today we have a stable food supply because scientists and farmers worked together to make it possible to keep green beans stable in cans to be enjoyed for years. Sometimes, as with hot dogs and mystery meat, the food industry would rather create a palatable meat product than just dumping fatty meat sludge into a landfill. This is actually a more environmentally sound AND more economically viable option than simply wasting meat byproducts that everybody complains about. There are some practices that are questionable but often WAY less questionable than the sources that people attempt to use to discredit them. TL;DR: Dont preach about the chemicals in your food unless you can at least draw their structures and competently assess their role/reactivity in nature (based on ACTUAL credible literature). Theyre there for a reason. If you dont know, ASK somebody who does before you freak out about them. #Endrant
