Inspiration for the Day Job 39:1-4 NASBV 1. Do you know the time the [a]mountain goats give birth? Do you observe the calving of the deer? 2. Can you count the months they fulfill, or do you know the time they give birth? 3. They kneel down, they bring forth their young, they get rid of their labor pains. 4. Their offspring become strong, they grow up in the open field; they leave and do not return to them. IN MOMENTS of despair, we can wonder if life is worth living. We can become discouraged and feel like giving up hope. Like Jeremiah, we can ask, “Why was I ever born?” We can conclude that our lives are “filled with trouble, sorrow, and shame” (Jeremiah 20:14-18 (NLT) Job asked these kinds of questions as he reacted to the problems he faced. He asked, “Why did I not die at birth, come forth from the womb and expire?” If he had died, “then, I would have been at rest, with kings and with counselors of the earth.” (Job 3:11-19) When He responded to Job, God specifically dealt with this issue. He made clear that He was sovereign over life, asking Job if he knew when goats gave birth, or if he understood how young deer are born. God was underscoring the fact that He is sovereign over every event in life. While He had given Satan permission to afflict Job, this was within clear boundaries He had established. At every moment God confirmed that He always was Lord over His creation. He still was Lord in moments when Job had questions, was discouraged, and faced overwhelming difficulties. When you face moments of discouragement, remember God’s message to Job. He is Lord, sovereign over all creation and every situation. No matter what you face, don’t give in to doubt or despair. Don’t give up! Instead, continue to trust in God, and stand on His unchanging Word. PRAYER: “Father, I commit these situations to You. I declare that You are the Lord of my life. I trust You and believe You will work everything together for my good. In Jesus’ name, Amen”. Devotion from Inspiration Ministries.
