‘Inspiring Generation’ spent 30 billion KRW to reconstruct old Shanghai in Yongin City [article excerpts] It has been revealed today that the production team for KBS 2TV Wed-Thu drama ‘Inspiring Generation’ had spent 30 billion Korean won to reconstruct the streets of old Shanghai on 33 thousand square feet of land. The team had earlier gone to Shanghai and Wuxi in China to film on location, and bring the sights and sounds of 1930 Shanghai to the small screen. But with overseas filming requiring more money, time, manpower, and equipment, the production team decided to do a reconstruction of old Shanghai back home in South Korea instead to cut down on production costs. The reconstruction of old Shanghai was done on the set in Yongin, as it perfectly recreated streets like Nanjing Road, and was as vivid and vibrant like the real ones. Although the Yongin set was a carbon copy of Shanghai Chedun Film Park, it also included designs that were painstakingly done up by Korean film technicians, like buildings and lightings that were more home-grown. The intricate designed film set were complemented perfectly by the acting of the cast, and contributed to being an excellent drama for viewing by viewers. The production revealed, “’Inspiring Generation will be heading to all parts of the country to film on location, and capture the scenes of yesteryear as vividly as possible. The Yongin film set will come into play after this week’s episodes.” The Mayor of Yongin said, “The video and media are the core of a television drama. The decision to construct the set for ‘Inspiring Generation’ in Yongin City, is a major contribution towards the development of the media industry in the city.
