Insta News Cabinet nod for Kota nuclear fuel complex Following the approval of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), countrys second nuclear fuel complex will come up at Kota in Rajasthan at a cost of Rs. 2400 crore. The complex, located next to Rawabhata nuclear plant, will have the facility to reprocess atomic fuel. The Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) has developed the new arrangement, keeping in mind the growing demand of fuel required for the nuclear plants. The new complex will serve atomic plants which are proposed to be developed in Gorakhpur, Haryana, Jaitapur in Maharashtra and Mithi Virdhi in Gujarat. Indias first nuclear fuel complex developed at Hyderabad, does not have the capacity to meet the growing demands from the reactors which will come up in the country by the next decade. Also, under the 12th Plan, India aims to take its nuclear energy power capacity to more than 17,300 MW. At present, the nuclear power generation capacity in India is over 5,500 MW. The CCS had earlier this month given its go ahead for setting up of this new complex.
