Instead of running two great stories, we have decided to release a position statement in light of todays events. Cycle is first and foremost a media outlet. We do our very best to bring you media and original stories from Australia first, and around the World. We have a rule that stories from overseas must have a strong connection with Australia before they go up. With the exclusion to some video clips. We provide information to you, our audience, just like Fairfax or any other media outlet does, except ours is skewed towards cycling and not politics. We work with the police, some police from all over Australia help with posts and forms, information and other projects. We are not (and I can not stress this enough) anti police. We work with a number of cycling groups, lots of them, and we want to work with more. Some are peak bodies and some just want a round-a-bout put on the end of their street. We consult and assist. We try very hard to work WITH these groups rather than pushing our own opinions onto them. We give them credit for the work that they do and have done and work on their behalf where possible. We blow in and blow out (like the wind) because we believe the best advocate on the road is YOU! Todays attack on Cycle was another of a long run, the Amy Gillett Foundation, Bicycle NSW, Bicycle Network, Freestyle Cyclists and many more have been put at the end of these attacks. We normally do not respond (I personally have blocked the page off from me, so it is with effort to read it). Today one of our admins decided enough was enough. He posted a response and I stand by his post. It had one rule, name no one and no org - that simple. We could have done worse, but we stopped short because that is not us. There are no secret handshakes or boys clubs, there are just people with some common goals who are willing to share resources and ideas toward a common desire for greater cyclist safety and resulting better outcomes for communities. Sorry for the long rant (I have tooth surgery tomorrow so wanted to get this out of the way). Thank you for reading. Edward Hore Director Cycle [email protected] #MovingCyclingForward
