Interesting and the truth for SoCal is Blue sharks are all but - TopicsExpress

Interesting and the truth for SoCal is Blue sharks are all but toast compared to how many there used to be and makos are way down as well 90% from historical levels for sure would be a good show for shark week for sure especially that the Great White mako Thresher Blue and Salmon shark nursery in our back yard in Socal has taken a hard hit from destructive commercial gear. From 1981-1991 there was an average of one great White killed every Three Days. Thats right one on average killed every three days for 10 years. The gear that depleted blue sharks is still here fishing just 3 miles from shore in a Major Apex predator nursery with in 3 miles from shore and it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out Makos are next. Luckily The juveniles whites spend a lot of their time in shallow water inside 3 miles where the gear is not allowed since 1993 and also helps with the juvenile threshers but no so with the makos and Blues. I think people would be very interested in this information and would be beneficial in removing the destructive gear for this essential fish habitat area that should be protected from gear with as high as 83% by catch comprised primarily of shark. I have done so much to help protect the local nurseries so sad to see very little change other than continued collapse. npr.org/blogs/thesalt/2014/08/11/339579328/shark-week-fuels-shark-meat-feeding-frenzy-at-restaurants
