Interesting article in Washington Post yesterday titled Bring in a celeb to bring in a crowd. The article discusses that it is very common to pay celebrities like Paris Hilton as much as $100,000 to make a club appearance. I am reminded that in almost 4 decades, in the business, I never paid a celebrity to show up and party at my clubs and bars. Of course I did offer some free Blue Nun wine to Sylvester Stallone, Let QB Jim Kelly tend bar and encouraged Lillian Carter (mother of the President Jimmy Carter) in her desire to get into the DJ booth to spin a few tunes but no payment EVER for a celebrity appearance. Certainly name acts like Fats Domino and Chuck Berry got paid for entertaining but not for showing up for a meet and greet. When I read articles like this I am glad I am retired LOL.
