Interesting discussion... If we do away with HUD, IRS, etc, will anyone notice?? Will things get worse? For example, if the IRS goes away, will the Dept of Treasury suddenly start receiving substantially less money than it does now?? Will it receive less than what it costs to have the department in the first place?? Said another way (and I credit Marc Cryer with this), is the cost of monitoring/enforcing compliance worth it??
