Interesting experiment. Watch Harry Boldt (or Riener Klimke) back to back with Charlotte Dujardin. I dont believe judges have been throwing marks at modern riders but the quality and talent of the horse has changed dramatically pushing the sport to an extreme where the definitions of what is considered quality work really did need to change. Certainly the classical masters were brilliant riders who could take basically average horses to amazing levels. The last several decades of rewarding fancy talented horses with poor riding and training was growing pains while things were redefined. I think we are back on track with the likes of Charlotte.
