Interesting perspective that attempts to sum up what everyone disjointedly thinks... unfortunately in an age where there is little will to inject resources if we arent able to see incremental milestone successes at every stage along the way, I honestly fear the myopia will continue. That would be a shame... I dont think anything galvanizes Singaporeans like the beautiful game and our Lions dominating their weight class, and then punching beyond it! Dark, Fair, Green, Blue or Purple... we bleed Red Lion for ninety minutes and are reminded of our identity and our history... an anology of our lives in a way. I dont mean the fair weather fans or the naysayers who peg us back because of the birthplace of our sportsmen. I believe they are a minority who mistakenly think they have a following. Its the rest of us, the majority. Its the uncle sat next to me begging Fazrul to wake up, or the little boy with his dad behind us, proudly wearing Hariss number on his back. Its my own little girl who prior to Saturday only knew how to cheer Man U. The same girl who made me wake up early that morning just so we were first to the SEA Games Merchandise Store at Wisma - the only place in Singapore you can get a junior jersey with our flag on the chest! If she was gonna go... she was gonna be dressed right for her team, nevermind she isnt yet 3. She whispered to me as I carried her out of the stadium after the game its okay Dada, dont be sad. Next time well come back again and well win!. I hope so baby... and win or lose well keep coming because the Lions are our team and they can only do their best everytime they put on the shirt, whether its Perak or Brazil. The rest, they, we all, can only leave up to the decision-makers and corporate big guns and their leadership.
