International Statement of Yo Soy 132 on the events of September - TopicsExpress

International Statement of Yo Soy 132 on the events of September 13 in the Zocalo (Plaza) of Mexico City Given the violent eviction of the teachers of the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE), in the Zocalo (Plaza) of Mexico city, we as an International cell of the Movement Yo Soy 132 and as a Foreign Legion, with representatives in different countries of the world, express a TOTAL REPUDIATION of the use of police force and manipulation of the mass media against CNTE teachers and the people of Mexico. The struggle of the teachers in Mexico is historic; thanks to their demonstrations today we have a free and popular education, as well as teacher training spaces very valuable as the Rural Normal Schools. As an International Cell of Yo Soy 132 Movement, we adhere to the CNTE protests against the Education Reform, which main purpose is not to improve the quality of education, but the elimination of the labor rights of workers, which will result in the worsening of quality in teaching. Meanwhile, CNTE it has always been in agreement with a new educational reform that prioritizes improvements in the conditions of schools, updating curricula and educational materials, especially preserving its free, secular and of great quality. The CNTE was deceived by SEGOB, since the Congress did not consider the proposals suggested in the ten consultation forums conducted from May 31 to July 12, in which were collected the opinions and suggestions of teachers, educators, parents and representatives of indigenous communities on the implications of Educational Reform; even though, the government provided them with resources to carry out such events. Teachers viewed these forums as an achievement that was obtained after eight hours of negotiations with officials of the Interior Ministry, the commitment of the federal government, was to take the conclusions of these meetings, before the Congress of the Union but, this NEVER happened, and such laws were introduced by Enrique Peña Nieto president of Mexico such as he wanted. Enrique Peña Nieto has a constitutional obligation to serve and meet the demands raised by the CNTE educators. Any act of eviction and violence are also illegal and unconstitutional acts of aberrant political status. It is doubly condemnable when the urgency of the eviction is due to the celebrations of the Independence of Mexico. A government that represses and criminalizes social struggle converts the celebration of Independence in an empty ritual. The techniques implemented by the media to discredit the struggle of educators presenting them as criminals, when in fact our struggle is simply a basic right and constitutional. Today is another example of the kind of state that governs Mexico, trying to gain legitimacy with the international powers using the police force to suppress dissent, while just an elite continues to enrich and is involved in drug trafficking. The actions of repression and criminalization that the Mexican government is just carrying off against social mobilization is a sign of the absence of democratic participation and impunity that now Mexico is suffering. We fully CONDEMN the actions of policy and politics of the Capitol of Mexico and Federal government, who also made use of water tanks and of an old military practice of infiltrators dressed in civilian clothes to make arrests, and use of violent groups to attack and provoke peers. We make responsible to the government of Mexico City and the Federal government of the physical and mental health of the detainees and the wounded. This September 15th is nothing to celebrate NO! We invite the national and international community to join and express their indignation by the repressive. Show and hold mass meetings at the representations of the Government of Mexico, in consulates, embassies and public squares around the world. Injury to one is an injury to all!!! Stop the repression!!! We repudiate the Mexican State!!! For freedom, justice, and dignity!!! For an authentic democracy!!! If we do not burn together, who will light this darkness!!!
