International Student Exchange Award Opens for Applications The Institute of Chartered Foresters has announced that an international student exchange award, offered in partnership with the Canadian Institute of Forestry and the Duchy of Cornwall, is open for applications. Endorsed by HRH the Prince of Wales, The Prince of Wales Forest Leadership Award will recognise outstanding students in the UK and Canada, and encourage their personal and professional development through employment experiences. The award will provide two students from each country with financial support and summer employment opportunities in the alternative country. Russell Horsey, ICF Deputy Director, who is helping to co-ordinate the award in the UK, said: “ICF is delighted to announce that we are now taking applications for The Prince of Wales Forest Leadership Award. This award presents a fantastic opportunity for UK forestry and arboriculture students, with the opportunity for a fully-funded work placement in Canada in 2015. “Having been lucky enough to study Urban Forestry in Canada myself, I know first-hand what an exciting opportunity this is for UK students. It will allow future leaders in the fields of forestry and urban forestry to broaden their knowledge and make great contacts among their Canadian counterparts. We strongly encourage our current and potential student members to consider taking part.” The Prince of Wales Forest Leadership Award is open to students and graduates of higher education in the subjects of forestry or natural resources. UK award winners are offered summer employment opportunities in Canada, in addition to a bursary of C$12,000 total to help cover travel and living expenses. A full list of criteria and more information on the application process is available at charteredforesters.org/forest-leadership-award. Closing date for applications is 30 November 2014. This date has been extended from the previously-announced October deadline.
