International and Indian scholars and theatre practitioners will - TopicsExpress

International and Indian scholars and theatre practitioners will come together to be part of an intense process of examining the 50 year theatre training practice of India’s theatre stalwart, Heisnam Kanhailal. It will look at how he and his lifelong collaborator, Heisnam Sabitri, train actors under Kalakshetra Manipur (KKM) by focusing on the body as a site of socio-cultural and political transformations. It is committed to contemporary issues of identity, nationalism and cultural differences but from an indigenous, non-mainstream perspective. This process will be documented minutely and shared openly. We hope to create a discourse on alternate theatre practices shaped by indigenous experiences, perspectives and world views. We need to raise Rs 7, 20,500 for this project. We are using the help of Orange Street to raise the money through crowd-funding. Your donation will make an immediate and profound impact on how KKM continue with its practice, how we share it with the wider world and how we leave it for theatre and our future generations.
