Interstellar Rant... Ive been keenly anticipating this movie ever since I saw the first 60 second trailer back in May. Now that its only 36 hours away, the reviews are coming in and I simply cant believe this assessment, written by Adam Graham of the Detroit News. To summarize, Mr. Graham grouses about the films two and one half hour length and that parts of the dialogue are at times so alienating it feels like youre eavesdropping on a conversation between nuclear scientists. FORGIVE ME for thinking I might LEARN SOMETHING from listening to SMART PEOPLE. And this brings me right back to my age old rant about how the world is rapidly becoming filled with stupid people. People who refuse to think. Mr. Graham appears to be in his thirties, has been with the News for 12 years and holds a degree in journalism from Central Michigan University. However, like most Gen Xers who suffer from ADHD, sitting still for two and one half hours at a time is egregiously difficult, unless you have a video game controller in one hand, a beer in the other and 50 inch flat panel in front of you with Call of Duty on the screen. But that doesnt require one to think. Just press and shoot. As a result, he gave Interstellar a C. Im going to assume C stands for Complex, which means its exactly my type of film. As for the rest of this country, it seems its time once again to drag out and paste in my favorite quote from one of the most revered men in our nations history: Rarely do we find men who willingly engage in hard, solid thinking. There is an almost universal quest for easy answers and half-baked solutions. Nothing pains some people more than having to think.—Martin Luther King, Jr. There. This time, HE said it.
