Interview with Johnny Rotten and Sid Vicious, 1977. J: “I don’t like the idea of people making money out of me… when it isn’t me… that’s making the money… out of them.” Is that a serious comment? J: “Yes.” S: “I am better at borrowing money than anyone else in the world.” That’s very profound. The title of the album that you did put out - whose decision was it to -? J: “Ours. Steve always says that it’s his catch phrase.” S: “It is something that Steve always used to say.” J: “Cause he’s rude.” S: “And decadent.” J: “Uncouth.” S: “And fat!” J: “Very fat.” Ah, but he’s not here to defend himself. S: “He couldn’t defend himself even if he was here. He’s a (…) slob. We hate him. We plot against him every night. And they plot against me as well.” Why would they plot against you, Sid? S: “Cause they say that I can’t play nothing and that I’m stupid.” J: “That is not a plot, that’s just a fact.” Sid, I have this theory about how you got your name. Now, can I just tell you - J & S in unison: “No.” J: “We called him Vicious, ‘cause - his real name is Sid - because he wasn’t Vicious, he’s just a big baby who eats sweets.”
