Into the Woods. PROS - Very solid as adaptations go. Enough there to preserve the original work. - Use of flashback really helped illustrate the lyrics and made the piece less stagnant. - Great to see Mysterious Man character and dodgy storyline cut as well as a few songs and reprises. I didnt miss them at all! No Snow White or Sleeping Beauty either. - Wonderful costumes. Incredibly detailed and thoughtful. - Beautiful mystical settings. - The Witchs special effects. - Anna Kendrick as (finally) an interesting, non-screechy sop Cinderella. CONS - SO MUCH AUTOTUNE. Its just so frustrating. Clearly some cast members cannot sing as well as others but really Lilla was Autotuned!? That girl sings Annie eight shows a week! - Mixed accent work. Given the film added dialogue, I feel a consistent accent would have been nice! - Bakers Wife death scene and general lack of gore. Yes, I know its a Disney adaptation but the gore kind of makes the show. Overall, a solid piece. For me, the Autotune was the biggest let down as it was so distracting. Forgot to add: I felt Hello Little Girl was spot on for this film. Not as creepy as in the show, but handled well. Agony a highlight but revealed an overall lack of commitment to playing it serious or hamming it up. I think more moments in Act One could have been played up to this level.
