Introducing this legend- Pat Nichol! Hey guys! So I was part of the Timor Team in 2012 during my honours year in exercise science. Being part of Future in Youth was such an incredible experience that I think about on an almost daily basis. The first photo I have chosen is with a young New Town boy wearing a Melbourne Victory jumper with absolutely no idea who Melbourne Victory are. The thing that resonated with me after seeing this boy is that they might not always have access to view the worlds best teams or be able to play on great grassy fields or own the best equipment or have well trained coaches, the fact is they love the game and anything that relates to it and thats what truly matters. The second photo I have chosen is one of the FIY team with an ecstatic bunch of locals from a rural town, quite a hike from Baucau, called Laga. We traveled there on one of our days off and the passion they showed us was jaw dropping and in my mind increasing the program to other areas of Timor Leste is a must in order for this program to succeed long term. The Laga people showed something special and above all I think it was compassion for each other and a passion for the benefits of organized sport. Timor Leste is a beautiful country packed with kind, soccer loving resilient people and if we maintain that same resilience when it comes to conducting this program I believe it can become self sufficient and change lives for the better.
