Introduction I Wanted To Be Bad “I was once a liar and a cheater. I was a coward disguised as a bully and hurt those who loved me. I made the wrong choices. I tormented myself over trivial matters and vented my frustrations on people who weren’t even remotely responsible for my pain and confusion. I felt incapable of growing, and as a result of that kind of thinking, I didn’t grow. I considered myself unworthy of any blessings or miracles, and therefore I lived within a constant hell where I never experienced blessings or miracles. I spent countless moments believing my life had no meaning or purpose. I was never sure of what I should be doing or where I fit in, which drove me to treat others with no regards to their feelings or situations. To the many people who feel like this now, I offer you the comfort of knowing that each person has a chance at fulfilling their life no matter what they have or have not done. I’ve learned and so will you: we all can have a second chance. We are not born perfect. We all make mistakes. Anyone who denies this isn’t being honest. I recently read The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. He wrote that when someone is in search of his or her dreams or “personal legend,” the whole universe conspires in his or her favor to help him or her find it. There is so much promise and affirmation in these words because the universe does not judge, and because of this, opportunities avail themselves to take you where you want to go or be. I am someone who can attest to the universe conspiring in my favor. I now know if you believe in miracles, miracles happen. If you believe in love, love appears. Your very thoughts can and will change your life. Every thing is mental; it all begins and ends in our minds. This is my story of how I changed my thoughts and my world. This is my story of discovering my “personal legend” and how the universe conspired in my favor to make me the person I am now. There are a number of people who took part in this transformation—too many to name, and perhaps some of them will deny having participated. Therefore, I have taken the liberty of not using real names. Some of them may now say, “But I was duped. If I had known, I wouldn’t have been a part of this.” But they had no power to stop this; the universe conspired, placing us in one another’s life path. All of these people were a part of a divine universal scheme, and because of their participation, we are all better. This is the story of many things, of a male person maturing into a real man, of a criminal growing into a human being. If someone like me can change and improve the quality of my life and the lives of those around me, then there is hope for you too. Beauty can be seen if you carry beauty inside you. The world is only a mirror and gives back the reflection of our own image. You are what you want to be, and you can be whatever you want.” Excerpt from I Wanted To Be Bad by James Young A saint is just a sinner who has turned their life around. We all fall down, but it is the getting back up that matters. A dead end street is a good place to turn around.
