Invasive Plant Pulling Party in Sprague. Volunteers are invited to join UConn staff to control mile-a-minute weed (Persicaria perfoliata), a highly invasive plant, at Mohegan State Forest and surrounding areas along the Shetucket River in Sprague on Wednesday, July 24, from 8:30 to 11 am. The plants will be removed by hand-pulling. Rain or shine unless weather is severe (thunderstorms). Dress for the weather, bring plenty of water and snacks. The walk to the site is slightly over a half-mile, with thorny vegetation and some wet areas. Boots, gardening gloves, long pants, a long-sleeved shirt and a hat are recommended. Insect repellent may also be useful.
