It shall be conducted against commercialisation and communalization of education and for establishment of a fully state-funded and entirely free Common Education System from ‘KG to PG’ in order to achieve the Constitutional goal of building a democratic, secular, socialist, just, egalitarian and humane society. It shall oppose the prevailing discriminatory multi-layered school system and instead campaign with commitment for replacing it by a Common School System based on Neighborhood School concept and governed through democratic, decentralised and participative mode. It shall oppose English as a medium of education in all educational institutions and demand that the mother tongue in a multi-lingual context shall be the medium of education in all private and government schools and colleges. The mother tongue as medium of education is globally acknowledged as the most potent medium for acquiring knowledge and learning other languages, including English. Such a common language policy in education and other sectors of national life (e.g. legislative, executive, judiciary, trade & business, Information Technology and knowledge production), along with a Common Education System from ‘KG to PG’, is one of the crucial pre-conditions for reversing the prevailing development policies that reinforce the dominance of the upper classes and upper castes and exclude the majority of dalits, tribals, OBCs, religious and linguistic minorities and the disabled, especially women in each of these sections of society, from equitable economic opportunities and social development. It shall demand abolition of all forms of child labor and provision of residential schools for all children so liberated for holistic childhood care and security, education and development. We shall campaign with commitment for unconditional free and equal fundamental right to education up to the age of 18 years (i.e. until Class XII) and equal opportunities in higher education in all areas of knowledge in order to meet the aspirations of the youth belonging to various social strata and developmental needs of a democratic, egalitarian, just and humane society. It shall oppose the WTO agenda in education and establishment of Foreign Universities in our country and campaign with commitment for India’s sovereignty in policy making in education and knowledge creation at all stages of education; It shall oppose commercialisation of education including all forms of PPP and campaign with commitment for equality, social justice and affirmative action for the disadvantaged viz., SCs, STs, OBCs, the disabled and religious and linguistic minorities, with special focus on women in each of these sections, and all other discriminated groups and communities such as the nomads, denotified tribes and transgender. It shall oppose communalization of education which violates the Constitutional Rights for diversity in languages, cultures and religions and campaign with commitment for appreciation of plurality and democratization of all religious, linguistic and cultural communities in order to eradicate inequalities based on class, caste, gender, languages, locale and disability, physical or mental. It shall oppose the spread of irrational, sectarian, divisive, majoritarian and inhuman propaganda by right-wing fundamentalist groups, especially the Sangh Parivar and its related organizations and campaign with commitment for inculcating scientific, secular and democratic outlook in society as envisioned in the Constitution. It shall oppose distortion of the very purpose of education to serve the needs of the global capital for skilled and slavish workforce and instead campaign with commitment for an education system that aims at the enlightenment of the individual for humane development of the society. It shall oppose centralisation of powers through the proposed NCHER (by UPA-II) or the Higher Education Commission of the current NDA Government and other similar measures of bureaucratization of administration in the interest of the World bank/WTO agenda in general and FDI in particular and campaign with commitment for democratization of governance through participative mode which includes accountability to the various strata society, autonomy of the universities, rights of the students, teachers and karmacharies and campus democracy. The All India Steering Committee (AISC) of the AIFRTE shall conduct the All India Shiksha Sangharsh Yatra which includes five Zonal Shiksha Yatras initiated from five zones viz., North-Eastern, Southern, Eastern, Western and Northern also on 2nd November. Leafleting, postering, wall writings, signature campaigns, cultural activities (Kala Jatha), processions, public hearings and meetings, press conferences and other creative forms of expression of the Yatra shall be organized by SLCCs/DLCCs. As it is known, the world’s biggest poisonous gas disaster caused by the multi-national Union Carbide’s pesticide factory occurred on the intermittent night of December 2-3, 1984 due to the deliberate negligence of the corporate house. Consequently, almost 50,000 people have since died and 5.5 lakh people continue to suffer from multiple injuries and related afflictions. Bhopal gas tragedy has become a symbol of the resistance to rapacious and unaccountable role of the global capital in the so-called ‘emerging economies’. This feature has become acute in the current neo-liberal conditions of marketization and commoditization of all aspects of economic, socio-cultural and political life. The thirtieth anniversary of this human tragedy caused by the multi-national corporate capital will be organised by the various victims’ organisations in Bhopal on a big scale on the 3rd of December, 2014. All participants of the All India Shiksha Sangharsh Yatra shall reach Bhopal a day in advance in order to participate in the 30th anniversary of the world’s biggest industrial disaster and express solidarity with the ongoing struggle of the victims for medical relief, rehabilitation and just compensation. Given our opposition to the neo-liberal capitalist assault on education, our expression of solidarity with the Bhopal victims’ 30-year long struggle will be in consonance with the spirit of the Yatra.
